Viola Burns

Mrs. Burns, 72, of 300 Westlee Street, Shelby, NC, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at her home. A native of Alleghany County, NC, Mrs. Burns was the daughter of the late Bert Sturgill & Mable Sturgill. She was retired from Cleveland Mills where she was a tenner operator and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Burns, a son David Lee Hodge, grandmother Sula Hodge and a brother Billy C. Sturgill. Mrs. Burns is survived by a son Jerry Hodge of the home, three daughters; Peggy Gales & husband Jake, Robyn Pitillo & husband Steven both of Shelby, and Donna Wilson of the home. She is also survived by three brothers Wade Sturgill & wife Virginia, Roger Sturgill & wife Vicki both of Sparta, NC, Bert Sturgill Jr. & wife Ruth of North Wilkesboro, NC, and three sisters Bertha Marlow of Moorsville, NC, Wanda Goad & husband Frank of Hillsville, VA., and Norma Jean Randleman & husband Allen of Yadkinville, NC. Mrs. Burns grandchildren are Kyle Goins, Jordon Gales, Tommy Gales & wife Tracy, Brittany H. Stine & husband Brandon, Heather S. Clemons & husband Tony, and Kelly Smith. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Eric Davis, senior pastor of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Shelby, NC.
