Vance Bowen

Mr. Vance (Clifford) Bowen, age 90, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bowen was a native of Cherokee County, SC. He was born August 19, 1922 to the late June Bowen and Ethel McMurray Bowen. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Shelby.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Vance Wayne Bowen; one brother, Hubert Bowen; six sisters, Sue Webber, Lela Wylie, Addie Lemons, Doris French, Grace Bowen and Mary Ruth Rush.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris Williamson Bowen of Shelby; two daughters, Trudy Jones and husband Turner of Grover and Freida Minnix and husband Steve of Shelby; one sister, Eloise Ross of Rocksboro; five grandchildren, Kevin Shea Jones, Jennifer Tucker, Amy Hammilton, Steve Minnix and Paul Minnix; 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
