Sherry Whitaker, lovingly known as MiMi, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends. Born on December 13, 1967, in Cleveland County, Sherry graced the world with her warmth and love, creating cherished moments for all who knew her.
A graduate of Kings Mountain High School, Sherry dedicated her life to her family, epitomizing the roles of a loving wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother. Her relationships with her loved ones were profound, each cultivated through her unique blend of kindness, strength, and unyielding support. Her husband, Craig Whitaker, stood by her side through life's journey, sharing countless memories filled with mutual affection and respect.
Sherry’s legacy continues through her three beloved children: Johnny Cogdell Jr. and his wife Mary, Ryan Casey Cogdell, and her daughter Paige Nicole Cogdell, who shares her life with Dillon Bradley. Each of them carries forward the lessons of love and resilience that Sherry imparted throughout their lives. She took immense joy in being a grandmother to her grandchildren, Huntley, River, Ellory, and Adalyn, filling their lives with laughter, warmth, and unforgettable experiences.
In addition to her immediate family, Sherry is survived by her dear siblings: brother Larry Donaldson and his wife Lynn, brother Ricky Donaldson and his wife Brandy, sister Lynn Smith and her husband Jimmy, and sister Suzie Blake and her husband Kyle. The bond between them was a source of strength for Sherry, who cherished her family deeply.
The community will gather to honor Sherry's life on July 9, 2025. Visitation will commence at 1:00 PM and continue to 1:45 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both held at Cleveland Funeral Services & Crematory in Shelby, NC, officiated by Rev. Shane Adkins. She will be laid to rest later that day at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, where loved ones will gather to celebrate the remarkable life she lived.

Sherry Whitaker’s spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to her loving nature and the countless lives she touched. Her legacy of love, dedication, and family will forever remain an inspiration, reminding us all of the beauty that comes from living a life rich with compassion and connection.
