Robert Eugene Stephens, Jr., 70, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.

Robert was known for his love for Jesus, strong work ethic, and love for driving.

A native of Matthews, NC, Robert was born in Charlotte, NC, on September 2, 1955, to the late Robert Eugene Stephens, Sr., and Gwendolyn Pressley Stephens.

Robert spent much of his working life behind the wheel as a truck driver. He also worked for many years as a bread delivery driver for Sara Lee. Robert was known for his love for Jesus, strong work ethic, and love for driving. Driving wasn’t just his profession – it was a way of life.

Robert never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and made people feel like old friends within minutes. His quick wit, warm personality, and wonderful sense of humor brought smiles to those around him and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. In his free time, he especially enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, a place that brough him happiness and many treasured memories.

He is survived by his former spouse, Lynn Stephens, of Bristol, TN; daughter Michelle Stephens of Shelby, NC; son Robert E. Stephens III and wife, Sarah, of Monroe, NC; grandchildren Austyn and Casey Stephens; and sister, Brenda Hackett, of Franklin, NC.

Robert will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his laughter and generous spirit. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
