Shelby, NC — Mary Ann Spangler Trice, age 93, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on September 14, 1931, in Shelby, NC, she was the daughter of Bailous and Lula Dorsey Spangler and spent most of her life in Shelby, where she built a life rich in love, faith, and family connections.
Known affectionately as “Maw Maw Mary” to her family and “Miss Mary Ann” to her friends and neighbors, she loved playing games, especially bingo, card games, and dominoes, singing her favorite hymns, visiting with her friends, and treasuring every moment spent with her family.
A devoted member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, she spent decades singing in the choir and serving in the women’s ministry. Her faith was steady and joyful, and she exhibited that faith in the way she lived her life.
She is survived by three children, Darla Ann Roadcap (Bob), Robert Lee “Butch” Trice (Lisa), and William Berry Trice (Beth); six grandchildren, Robert Roadcap, Tyler Trice, Austin Trice, Andrew Trice, Landon Trice and Kinsleigh Trice Shah; two great grandchildren, Trent Roadcap and Emi Kate Trice; and one brother, Bill Spangler.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Loy Lee Trice (d 1989); and five siblings, Robert Spangler, Roy Spangler, J.B. Spangler, Marjorie Rice, and Catherine Porter.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Shelby. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church, which will start at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park near Boiling Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or VIA Health Partners (Hospice), Shelby, NC, honoring her lifelong commitment to serving others.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
