Mary Morehead

A lifelong resident of Shelby, she was a daughter of the late Robert Samuel & Bertha Wilkins Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her husband of 67 years, Lawrence Evans Morehead, a daughter, Bettie Jean Morehead Farris, a son, Bobby Dean Morehead, a sister, Louise Dover Roberts, and brothers, Jay, Ben, Graham, Robert Lee, Claude and Jim Dover.
A faithful member of Sharon United Methodist Church for over 80 years, she taught children's Sunday School classes and served on many committees and church council. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mrs. Morehead retired from the Esther Mill Company after 40 years and had since enjoyed watching her family grow. She will be especially remembered by her loving family and friends for her "sweet tea" , her love for chocolate, and her loyal following of the Atlanta Braves.
Mrs. Morehead is survived by her daughter, Jane Morehead Matthews of Shelby, brother, Gene "Buck" Dover and wife Maryland of Shelby, grandchildren Cynthia Farris Kelly and husband Jim of Traveler's Rest, SC, Bobby Dean Henkel and wife Brenda of Tuckaseegee, Denise Henkel Shepherd and husband Billy of Lake Junaluska, Jeanne Farris Karout and husband Wissam of Charlotte. She cherished her great-grandchildren, Jesse, Jodi and Justus Henkel; Kenlyn, Zack and Walton Shepherd; Josie, Alia and Alex Karout; and Emma, Maggie and Gracie Lyons.
