Larry Dean Anthony

Larry Dean Anthony, born on March 3, 1935, in Shelby, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, at the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby. He was a man whose life was characterized by faith and love for family.

Larry’s journey began in Shelby, where he was raised by his parents, Boyd Hinson Anthony Sr. and Ruby Debrew Anthony. He was blessed with a strong family foundation that shaped his character and values. Larry was supported and loved by his wife, Sara Blanton Anthony, who predeceased him. He was the devoted father of Deana Anthony Philips with husband David, both of whom passed before him. Larry is also preceded in death by his sister, Aileen Anthony Wright; and a brother-in-law Carol Wright.

Known for his persuasive salesmanship, Larry achieved much in his career, earning respect and admiration for his skill and earnest approach. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he had several personal passions including time with his buddies on the golf course, caring for his lawn, UNC sports teams, and southern gospel music.

For many years, he was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where he expressed his devotion as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, RA director, and he especially loved singing tenor in the choir. In later years, he continued his spiritual journey as a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.

Family and friends were deeply valuable and important to Larry, as memories were created through love and laughter. He is survived by his grandchildren David Joseph Philips and wife Olivia, and Daniel Anthony Philips; stepchildren Mike Stamey, Kay Gregory and husband Randall, Joy Justice and husband Chuck, Brad Stamey and wife Lori, and his step daughter-in-law Katherine Reese; siblings Billie Sue Anthony Wright, Carrie Ann Anthony Propst and husband Carroll, and Boyd Hinson Anthony Jr. and wife Barbara; along with ten step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Each of these relationships reflected the warmth and generosity that Larry extended to all who knew him.

The family expresses special thanks for the wonderful service of Teresa Hicks, caregiver for many years.

Larry’s legacy is one of faith, family, and friendship. His presence will be dearly missed, yet the memories he has left behind will be treasured.
