Kay McWhirter

 Kay was born in Shelby, NC on April 24, 1962. She was the daughter of the late Coell Foster Jr. and the late Molly Jean Jones Foster.

 Kay graduated from Crest High School in 1980. She then went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree from Limestone University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Gardner-Webb University. Kay spent many years as a Professor at Cleveland Community College where she taught early childhood education. She had a passion for teaching and inspired many future educators.

 Kay married Colin Perry McWhirter in 2000. Kay and Colin dated in high school and found each other later in life, sharing close to 25 years of marriage. 

 In addition to her husband, Kay is survived by her children: Lacey Mull Blake and children Turner and Wyatt, Franklin Cole Mull and spouse Chelsey, and Anna Grace McWhirter. Kay was very close with her loving friends Ercell Daves and Kim Bingham.

 Kay enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her incredible meals. Kay was also an avid scrapbooker and captured exceptional memories of family and friends.

 A visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Cleveland Funeral Services. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Cleveland Funeral Services conducted by Rev. Chris Little. All former students and faculty members are welcome to attend.
