Joseph "Joe" Allen Johnson, born on June 26, 1976, in Charlotte, North Carolina, peacefully departed this life on February 7, 2026, in Gastonia, North Carolina. A cherished member of his community, Joe's legacy will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joe was a proud graduate of Crest High School, class of 1994, in Shelby, North Carolina. He embraced life with an adventurous spirit, relishing numerous hobbies and interests. An avid sports enthusiast, Joe dedicated time to playing soccer and found joy in thrilling activities such as water sports and snowboarding. His love for sports extended beyond participation, as he enjoyed watching and supporting his favorite teams and athletes. Beyond athletic pursuits, Joe's passion for reading, particularly the Bible, reflected his deep faith and values, which were an integral part of his life.
Joe's warmth and affection were especially directed towards his family and friends. He found immense joy in spending quality time with his loved ones, particularly his son, Syrus Gavin Johnson. Together, they created lasting memories that highlighted the bond between father and son. Joe's capacity for love extended to animals as well, notably his fondness for pets, including a special canine friend named "Bear."
A devoted member of Victory Baptist Church, Joe actively participated in his faith community, embodying the principles of love and compassion that defined his character.
Joe is survived by his father, Larry Johnson; mother, Judy Javins Johnson; son, Syrus Gavin Johnson; and brother, Larry W. Johnson, along with his wife, Erin, nieces and nephews, Matthew Johnson and wife Hannah, Caleb Johnson, and Isaac Johnson. Their lives were enriched by Joe's presence, and they will carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and adventure.
Visitation will be held on February 13, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cleveland Funeral Services & Crematory, located at 2518 W Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28150. This will be followed by a Funeral Service from 11:00 AM at the same location, allowing friends and family to pay their final respects and celebrate Joe's remarkable life. A burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
