John Henderson

John Henderson, a devoted family man and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, North Carolina. Born on September 11, 1944, in Lincoln County, North Carolina, John’s life was marked by steadfast love, commitment, and a deep passion for the simple joys that filled his days.

John was a faithful member of In His Hands Independent Baptist Church and was married for 38 years to his beloved wife, Shirley Moore Henderson, who preceded him in death. Throughout his life, John found great joy in watching Nascar, working on cars, tending to his yard, and savoring a refreshing Sundrop. Most importantly, his heart belonged to his family and friends, with whom he treasured spending time—especially the moments shared with his grandchildren.

John’s legacy lives on through his loving children: Lisa Henderson of Stanley, NC, Sandra Stanley of Shelby, NC, Donnie Henderson and his wife Elizabeth of Shelby, NC, Christy Lesassier and her husband Mark of Shelby, NC, and Kale Henderson of Shelby, NC. He found immense pride and happiness in his grandchildren, including Brittany McDaniel and her husband Austin of Shelby, NC; Lindsey McCutcheon and her husband Brad of Stanley, NC; Jason Black of Shelby, NC; Jasmine Duchene; and Macayla Henderson. The joy John shared with his great-grandchildren—Bristol McCutcheon and Brody McCutcheon—was immeasurable and brought light to his later years.

John’s circle of close family also includes his siblings who stand by his memory: Bobby Henderson and his wife Terri of Shelby, NC; Danny Ray Henderson of Shelby, NC; Dorothy Reynolds of Shelby, NC; and Diane Horton of Shelby, NC. The bond they shared with John was one of mutual love and lifelong connection.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Moore Henderson, father, James Henderson; mother, Maggie Beaver Henderson; as well as his brothers Bud Henderson, Archie Henderson, and Charlie Henderson, and sisters Betty Jackson, Kathy Smith, and Judy Carter. Their memories remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.

A visitation to honor John’s life will be held on April 3, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services & Crematory, located at 2518 W Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC. Donald White.  Family, friends, and all who knew John are invited to join in celebrating a life well-lived and to offer their support to his loved ones during this time of profound loss.

John Henderson’s presence was a gift to all who knew him, a testament to kindness, loyalty, and devotion.
