James "Jim" Everette Blanton Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Shelby, North Carolina community, passed away on April 19, 2026, in his hometown. Born on June 10, 1951, Jim's life was marked by a steadfast commitment to family, faith, hard work, and humility.
Jim pursued higher education with dedication, earning a bachelor's degree from Gardner Webb University. Throughout his professional life, he demonstrated a strong work ethic and versatility. He worked as a truck driver for Burlington Industries and served as a maintenance worker for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Additionally, Jim found fulfillment in working as a cattle farmer, a role that connected him deeply to the land he loved.
Known for his humble demeanor, he was a man of simple pleasures who enjoyed being outdoors, tending to his farm, and raising cattle. His love for nature was matched only by his devotion to his family, with whom he cherished spending quality time. Jim’s faith was an important part of his life; he attended Hope Community Church when possible and maintained his connection by watching services online when he could not be there in person.
Jim's family was a central pillar of his life. He and his wife, Vicki Peeler Blanton of Shelby, celebrated 51 years of marriage—a testament to their enduring bond. He was a proud father to two sons: Jarrett Blanton and his wife Jennifer of Shelby, and Chris Blanton and his wife Morgan of Boone. Jim’s greatest joy came from his grandchildren—Cade, Jake, Josie, Gracyn, and Ruthie—who brought light and happiness into his later years. He is also survived by his sister, Sarah Lemons and her husband Billy of Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Everette Blanton Sr. and Margretta Hicks Blanton; and his sister, Barbara Blanton Hendrick.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Services & Crematory, located at 2518 W Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28150. The funeral service will follow immediately afterward, at 1:00 PM conducted by Pastors Skip Allen and Jeremy Peeler. A burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Cade Blanton, Jake Blanton, Joe Bjerg, Joseph Bjerg, Ryan McMillan, and Brett McMillan.
Jim’s life was a testament to quiet dignity, faithful service, and wholehearted love. He leaves behind a legacy of humility, dedication, and profound care for his family and community. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
