Hugh Carson Huffman

   Hugh Carson Huffman, 81, passed away on September 20, 2026, at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, North Carolina.

   Born on September 9, 1945, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, Hugh lived a life marked by a love of the outdoors, time with those he cherished, and the simple pleasures that brought him joy. One of his favorite things to do in his free time was to fish. He also enjoyed camping, and especially treasured spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed being outdoors and traveling to the beach, interests that reflected his appreciation for nature and for making lasting memories. Among the companions he held dear were his two dogs, Coco and Gracie, who were a special part of his life.

   He is survived by his wife, Ruth Knight Huffman of the home. He also leaves behind his sons, Mark Huffman and wife Debbie of Earl, NC, and Kelly Huffman and wife Jenny of Earl, NC; his stepdaughter, Susie Nelson and husband Buddy of Laurens, SC; and his stepson, James R. Hughes of Fountain Inn, SC. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Noah Huffman, Wesley Huffman, Chris Huffman, Jennifer Short, Amanda Weedon, step-granddaughter, Kaitlynn Bridges and husband Drake, and step-grandson, Robert Richardson, his great grandchildren, Sky Huffman, Sage Huffman, Ben Short, and Stevie Short Jr. Each of them carries forward memories of shared time, love, and family connection that meant so much to him.

   He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Huffman Jr.; his mother, Faye Black Huffman; his son, Gregory Huffman; and his sisters, Joan Evans, Betty Ann Richards, Margaret Wylie, and Peggy Gantt.

   A visitation will be held form 4:30pm - 6:00pm Thursday, September 24, 2026 at New Hope Baptist Church, 2621 Blacksburg Rd, Earl, NC.  A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00pm conducted by Pastor Russ Bradley.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to VIA Health Partners founded as Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.

   Hugh Carson Huffman will be remembered with love by those who knew him. His life was one grounded in family, friendship, and enjoyment of the outdoors, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of sharing in it.
