The bonds of family meant everything to Freddie, and his warmth embraced both close kin and extended relations.
Freddie Hoyle Clontz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, in Charlotte, NC, at the age of 83. Born on March 6, 1943, in Marion, NC, Freddie led a life marked by deep devotion to family and unwavering kindness to all who knew him.
Freddie’s life was built on the foundation of love and faith, values that resonated in his every action and word. Freddie was a proud member of Faith Baptist Church. He loved his preacher, Barry Goodman and his church family dearly. Freddie was a talented musician. He played dobro with the string section in church. He also enjoyed playing harmonica and keyboard with friends and family. He was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. He shared a remarkable bond with his wife, Carolyn Mace Clontz, who stood faithfully by his side throughout their journey together. He was also known as the one-armed golfer; he only had one arm, but was an excellent golfer. He was an avid supporter of our Sheriff, Alan Norman.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance in his children: Duane Carroll and his wife Christy, Chris Carroll and his wife Wendy, Brian Clontz and Julie Cornell. The memory of his late son, Jimmy Carroll, remains dearly cherished by all who loved him.
Freddie was further blessed with a cherished circle of family, including Jimmy's fiancé, Rhonda Galloway, his brother Edward Clontz and wife Brenda, and his sisters Jeanette Rhom and Linda Mann, along with his brother-in-law Clifford. He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Clontz; his mother, Faye Moody Clontz; his brothers Ronald "Butch" Clontz and Alonzo Clontz; and his sister Lenita Williams. The bonds of family meant everything to Freddie, and his warmth embraced both close kin and extended relations.
As a proud grandfather, Freddie delighted in the company and accomplishments of his grandchildren: Sarah, Kamon, and wife Shanna, Joseph, Mindi, Alias, Kyle, Caleb, Colby, Alex Camp and husband Bradley, and Liliana Clontz. His devotion and gentle wisdom will continue to inspire them and future generations.
The Clontz family would like to thank the special people in their lives who have helped them tremendously and unselfishly. Jim and Judy Gorman, Susan Woods, Rhonda Galloway and Lori Clontz.
Throughout the years, Freddie touched many lives with his compassion and steady presence. While the details of his professional and community endeavors are not listed here, the impact he made is reflected in the love and respect shown by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
