Doris Bowen

Doris Bowen, 89, of Shelby, passed away on Oct. 25, 2013.

Born on Nov. 5, 1923, she was a native of Cleveland County, a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Shelby.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Var Williamson and Fannie Stacy Williamson Smith, and her step-father, Monroe Smith; her husband, Vance Clifford Bowen; son, Vance Wayne Bowen; brother, Wayne Stacy Smith; and great-granddaughter, Sabrina Alexis Tucker.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Trudy Jones and Turner of Grover, and Freida Minnix and Steve of Shelby; grandchildren, Kevin Shea Jones, Jennifer Tucker, Amy Hamilton, Steve Minnix and Paul Minnix; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like say a "special thanks" to Carillon Assisted Living and also to Hospice for the excellent care given Mrs. Bowen.
