Donnis Crocker Jarrell, a cherished and faithful member of her community and family, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, in Forest City, North Carolina, the place of her birth. Born on June 18, 1931, Donnis lived a life rich with love, dedication, and joyful pursuits that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Donnis' life was a testament to her unwavering faith and devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A proud and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, she found great comfort and community within its congregation. Her enduring commitment to her church was a beacon of strength throughout her life.
She shared nearly five decades of marriage with her beloved husband, John Arnold Jarrell, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a legacy of love and family that remains evident in the lives of their children and grandchildren.
Donnis was a woman of varied interests and deep familial devotion. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, camping, and playing cards, activities that often brought her family and friends together. Her cooking was a source of joy and fellowship for her loved ones, and she took great pride in gardening, carefully tending to her flowers with the patience and care that reflected her spirit. Above all, she treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her life.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Janice Cooke of Forest City, NC, and her son, Curtis Jarrell, along with his wife, Audrey, of Shelby, NC. Donnis was a beloved grandmother to Ashley Jarrell and her fiancé Brad Kosarue, Leah Miller and her husband Aaron, John Jarrell and his wife Shawna, and Natalie Fletcher and her husband Jonathan. Her legacy continues through eight great-grandchildren: Luke Kosarue, Dallas Kosarue, Easton Miller, Noah Miller, Ava Grace Miller, Gracelynn Hamilton, Morgan Fletcher, and a newborn on the way, Benjamin Jarrell, who eagerly await to carry forward the family’s cherished memories. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Eunice Ann Crocker Melton, and her husband Jerry of Shelby, NC.
Donnis is now reunited with her late husband, John Arnold Jarrell; her parents, Archie Edward Crocker and Sudie Arkansas Hamrick Crocker; her brother, Archie Edward Crocker; and her sisters, Nellie Elizabeth Crocker Crook and Shirley Jean Crocker Frye, who preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church located at 320 Old Boiling Springs Road in Shelby. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm conducted by Rev. Robert Rash. A private burial will be held at Cleveland Memorial Park. These services will provide an opportunity for all whose lives were touched by Donnis to gather, remember, and celebrate her remarkable life.
Donnis Crocker Jarrell’s life was marked by steadfast faith, profound love, and joyful participation in life's simple pleasures. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever enrich the hearts of her family and community. Her memory will be honored and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
