Together, they built a family that was the center of Bobby’s world and his greatest joy.
Bobby Dean Cogdell, born December 30, 1950, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 8, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose legacy will live on through the many lives he touched over his seventy-five years.
Bobby was the cherished son of the late Clarence Gordon Cogdell and Lillie Bell Jenkins Cogdell. Raised in Cleveland County, he formed strong values of community, family, and hard work that remained with him all his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Robin Jones Cogdell, with whom he shared a deep and enduring partnership. Together, they built a family that was the center of Bobby’s world and his greatest joy.
Bobby was a loving father to his son, Michael Cogdell, and wife Meagan; daughters Andrea Asdel, Deanna McSwain and husband Michael, and Brandy Bernat and husband Zach. Each of his children and their families brought tremendous pride and happiness to his life.
Bobby’s guidance, wisdom, and affection set an example for each new generation.
His presence enriched the lives of his grandchildren: Will Cogdell, Cassie Cogdell, Taylor Cogdell, Parker Cogdell, Marlee Cogdell, Jackson Burris, Makayla McSwain, Wyatt McSwain, Lawton McSwain, and Zachery Bernat. He is also remembered with deep love by his great-grandchildren Addison Cogdell, Axel Cogdell, Ashton Cogdell, Ansley Cogdell, Wesley Holland, Presley Wiggins, and Lainey Wiggins. Bobby’s guidance, wisdom, and affection set an example for each new generation.
He is further survived by his three sisters, Betty Mellon, Aileen Cogdell, and Brenda Smith and husband Larry, as well as his brothers David Cogdell and wife Sherry, and his sister-in-law, Barbara Cogdell.
Those who preceded him in death include his father, Clarence Gordon Cogdell; his mother, Lillie Bell Jenkins Cogdell; his brothers, Clifford Cogdell and Clarance Cogdell; and his grandchild, Robbie Bernat
Bobby enjoyed having breakfast at the Depot with his friends and spending afternoons at Harrill's Tire Shop. He had a love for traveling and seeing all 50 states and cruising with the love of his life, Robin, seeing multiple countries. Bobby was a remarkable baker and enjoyed "building" cakes for his friends and loved ones. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren all the life lessons he knew, including instilling in them a good work ethic, but he also had fun playing and riding the four-wheelers with them.
He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, steadfast nature, and the profound love he gave so freely.
Throughout his life, Bobby was devoted to his family and maintained deep connections that brought comfort and support to those around him. He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, steadfast nature, and the profound love he gave so freely.
As family and friends gather to mourn his passing, they will also celebrate a life well-lived—a life built on commitment, compassion, and an enduring spirit. The memories he created and the lessons he imparted will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
