Barbara Ann Griffith Byers, a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, at Sherrills Ford Hospice House in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. Born on May 6, 1942, in Vineland, New Jersey, Barbara lived a life marked by faith, family, and service.

Barbara's journey was deeply rooted in her faith as a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she actively contributed to the spiritual life of the congregation by playing the handbells, a testament to her dedication and love for worship. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church; in 1999, she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) degree, highlighting her compassionate nature and desire to care for others.

Her passions included crocheting, a craft through which she expressed her creativity and patience. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially rooting for her favorite driver, Kyle Busch, and treasured every moment spent with her family and friends, who were central to her happiness and well-being.

Barbara’s proudest accomplishments encompassed her longstanding marriage of 33 years to her beloved husband, Charles Herman Byers, who predeceased her, and her unwavering dedication to her faith community.

She is survived by her devoted four children: Fredrick Hunter and wife Sandy of Mays Landing, New Jersey; Kimberly Hunter and Eric Dost of Hildebran, North Carolina; Barbara Arrowood and husband Kevin of Blacksburg, South Carolina; and John Reed and wife Mahalia of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Her legacy continues through her loving grandchildren, Nicole Errickson, Ashley Baker and husband Josh, Conlee Hunter, and Preston Hunter, as well as three great-grandchildren: Annabell Pennington, Bailey Baker, and Hunter Baker.

Barbara also leaves behind her sisters: Betty Edwards of Mays Landing, New Jersey; Elayne Renner of Millville, New Jersey; Linda Griffith of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; and Brenda Buller of Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick Griffith Jr. and Ida Elizabeth Albertson Griffith, her brother Fredrick Griffith III, sister Peggy Marie Williams, and her husband Charles Herman Byers.

A funeral service honoring Barbara's life will be held 12:00pm Thursday, June 25th, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Russ Bradley.  A visitation will be held from 11:00am - 12:00pm prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
